100,000 travellers per month on the one-year-old 55 route

Thursday, June 16, 2016

Classical music, happy passengers and birthday cake! There was a festive atmosphere when the 55 route celebrated its first birthday at the indoor bus stop on Teknikgatan on 15 June.

The results thus far have exceeded all expectations – the route has more than 100,000 travellers every month and both drivers and passengers are highly appreciative of the silent electric buses. Bus passengers were able to enjoy classical music on the route’s first birthday. The live concert was performed by a group of children from Greenland who are participating in the international music camp Side by Side by El Sistema, which is currently under way in Gothenburg.

Representatives of several of the ElectriCity collaboration's actors spoke during the birthday celebrations. These included Västtrafik's MD, Lars Backström, talking about the major international interest which has been shown in ElectriCity. The Volvo Group's chief sustainability officer Niklas Gustafsson emphasised the importance of being able to demonstrate a working solution in order to get more towns to move towards electric bus traffic, and explained how demand for Volvo’s electric and electric hybrid buses is constantly increasing. The fact that many organisations are interested in ElectriCity was confirmed by yet another actor now joining the collaboration – Ericsson.
