ElectriCity Demonstration Arena

Since the start in 2015, ElectriCity has offered a demonstration arena (demo arena) which has enabled innovation within a number of projects linked to the collaboration. The projects and tests carried out in the demo arena contribute in various ways to more sustainable and more efficient transport that is useful and attractive to users.

Since 2015, ElectriCity's demo arena has been a place for various actors to test products and services that can contribute to more sustainable mobility and more efficient or attractive transport. At the moment, Testbed bus is the project that makes up the demo arena.

A prerequisite for being allowed to perform tests within ElectriCity is that at least one of the ElectriCity partners must be included. The product or service must be something completely new that has not been tested before and that contributes to sustainable mobility and transport or sustainable and attractive public transport. It must be able to follow up the tests and they may preferably, but not necessarily, be linked to research. It should also be possible to scale up the tests outside the demo arena. Organizations that want to test something within ElectriCity are themselves responsible for financing the tests.

The way in to test and develop a product or service is thus via one or more of the ElectriCity partners. Two of the parties in the ElectriCity collaboration, the Swedish Energy Agency and the Region Västra Götaland, finance certain collaborative projects within ElectriCity based on their respective program and financing tools. For the Region Västra Götaland, this mainly takes place via their program for sustainable transport. There may be other financiers as well, such as Vinnova and the EU. To be able to refer to ElectriCity in applications for financial support, you need to have at least one of the parties in ElectriCity involved in the project, who in turn has anchored the project idea within ElectriCity.

It is possible to be a supplier on commercial terms to the parties who are interested in paying for the service or product you want to test. But usually, in the context of tests at the ElectriCity arena, the company that has a product or service participates and finances the tests and development. Several of the parties are subject to the Public Procurement Act, which means that they must procure in competition.

If it is not obvious who to contact, you can always contact the coordination.

Examples of projects and test on the demo arena:

  • When the tests on route 55 finished their first three years, the bus batteries were used in another test. In a collaborative project between Volvo, Göteborg Energi, Riksbyggen and Johanneberg Science Park, they stored electricity from solar cells at the condominium association Viva.
  • Chalmersfastigheter has built the indoor bus stop on Teknikgatan. Researchers associated with Chalmers studied the indoor climate. The results are used by Akademiska Hus in the planning of new buildings and by Älvstranden Utveckling in the planning of the new Frihamnen district.
  • Touch screens at stops at Teknikgatan, Chalmersplatsen and Götaplatsen are examples of existing technology used in a context where Västtrafik has not tried it before. There, among other things, possibilities were tested where travelers could plan their journey at the stop or be guided along the line and ElectriCity.
