Electrification of Gothenburg's public transport was highlighted by UITP

Monday, July 8, 2019

Västtrafik's work on electrifying public transport in Gothenburg and West Sweden was recognized during UITP's World Congress in Stockholm in June. As part of the campaign "Redefining public transport", Västtrafik has made a film showing how electrified traffic transforms the city and people's everyday lives.

Gothenburg is one of about ten cities in the world selected as good examples of sustainable and innovative solutions. The campaign is a collaboration between the global public transport organization UITP (Union Internationale des transports publics) and the British television company BBC.

Through the successful work within ElectriCity, we know that electrified traffic is appreciated by both customers and drivers. The drivers' improved work environment with a quieter ride and less vibration is an important aspect given the large recruitment needs in the industry. This is also what Västtrafik has chosen to focus on in the contribution to the campaign.

The film was shown in several different contexts during the conference in Stockholm and is now available and spread through a campaign page - redefiningpt.uitp.org - and bbc.com. The hashtag for the campaign is #redefiningpt.

UITP Global Public Transport Summit is an annual event that brings together public transport authorities, operators, industry and researchers from all over the world.
